General Information

Dear visitor,

There are many things you need to know when planning a move in Germany. We have listed some of the most important ones here. We highly recommend using the possibility to register and deregister your phone, gas, and electricity connections online! You will find the appropriate links at the bottom of the german page.

1. Preperation

Furniture surfaces should be made as smooth as possible; knobs, keys and fittings should be removed to the extent possible. This will reduce the risk of scrapes and scratches, allowing the protective blankets to do their job. Loose shelves and inlays must be removed from the furniture and bundled.

Your washing machine should be secured with the manufacturer's transportation lock.

Refrigerators and freezers should be emptied and defrosted before moving day. Following the move, refrigerators and freezers must be allowed to settle for at least 5 hours before switched on.

Large plants should be tied up or wrapped in foil, with the soil wrapped in a plastic bag. For long-distance removals, plants should be watered liberally before the move in summer, but kept dry in winter.

Electrical devices should be packed in their original packaging whenever possible. If possible, try to use the original Styrofoam packaging as well. If you use our cartons, we recommend wrapping the devices in bubble wrap and taping the wrap securely. Any empty space in the cartons should be filled with foam "peanuts".

Based on our past experience, we recommend moving smaller electrical devices - such as PCs, VCRs, stereo equipment and the like - to your new residence yourself, if you are not moving too far away.

The same applies to small pendulum clocks, regulators, panes of glass, and other sensitive goods.

2. Organisation by the customer

Stack the cartons in an accessible place in your old residence, as they will be loaded first.

Please provide free access for the moving lorry at the loading and unloading points (for instance, height of gateways, retractable bollards, fortified road).

We can set up temporary no-parking zones upon request.

Please obtain the key for your lift / cabin extension from your building caretaker or concierge.

Protection of carpeting, hardwood floors and stairs within the residence.

Provide lighting in the new residence.

3. Times

We begin removals Monday to Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Please note that our actual arrival time will depend on traffic conditions along our route.

For smaller removals, a start time between noon and 2:00 p.m. can also be arranged.

Please arrange your specific moving date at least 3-4 weeks in advance.

4. Disposal

We can dispose of unwanted furniture as part of our services. Please understand, however, that we can only offer this service for a limited number of pieces. If you plan a larger clearing-out, please contact a specialty firm or your local waste removal company (in Berlin: BSR).

Should you encounter problems during your removal that our removals team leader is unable to solve, please speak with one of our office management staff.

Should any damage occur during the move, please make an appropriate note on the worksheet.
